It’s done.

Sunday, July 31st, 2005

Well, I think it’s done now. All the functionality of the old site is restored and I can finally go back to regular posting schedule. But we also have some new features:

  • Comments and ping-backs are enabled on this and all future posts.
  • ISBN search and soon-to-be-implemented multi-site support for the Amazon pages.

That’s it for now. I watsted a whole weekend to get this stuff going, but finally I have been able to find the neccessary bits in the WordPress documentation. There you go!

Upgrade in progress [Update3]

Friday, July 8th, 2005

Fellow readers,

As you may have noticed by now, I’m currently in the process of upgrading Too far afield to a new level – or to be more precise: WordPress 1.5.1.3. This upgrade is made for security reasons.

Please bear with me as I’m working to restore the look ‘n feel so as the functionality of the old site. Trust me, I knew why I held back the upgrade from WordPress 1.2 for so long!

Cheers!

Patrick

Update

The design transition is not really done by now. However, most things look all right to me. As far as I can see:

  • The Amazon pages need some work.
  • Search is still in the sidebar for now.
  • StraightThrouhgs are mixed between the normal posts.
  • Highlighting of the current page in the navigation bar does not work, except on the home page. This is the part, of which I have no idea how to do it, yet.
  • The CSS file will need some serious cleanup as soon as everything’s settled.

While you wait ’til everything’s finished, you can start wondering, why I left those bothering Comments Off strings alone this time…

Update 2

I fixed the links to the RSS feeds of this site. Both links displayed in the sidebar were broken.

Update 3

Amazon images work again, although there are still some things to do. They changed their API a few days ago – that broke my PHP class.
